INTRODUCTION
Kinoatelje, to celebrate its forty years, decided to pay homage to the founder with a special event: the convention “Fiducia oltre il confine. Darko Bratina’s vision between society and politics“. It’s been a full day, the 20th of October 2017 in Gorizia between the headquarters of the Carigo Foundation and the Palazzo del Cinema, where, between memories, reflections and testimonies, different aspects of the life and work of the sociologist, politician, critic and researcher of Gorizia’s cinema were deepened.
At the same time, they tried to investigate on the possible inheritances of his thinking and his particular way of acting, often oriented on different directions and characterised by an interdisciplinary approach. This event was born, thanks to a dense networking and collaborations, in a bilingual format (in Italian and Slovenian with simultaneous interpretation) and added to the prestigious schedule of the Sociology Week which happened in the whole of Italy from the 13th to 20th of October 2017. A synergy that represented an intention to bring to reality the sociological thought of Darko Bratina, compared with contemporary times.
PROGRAM
V ta namen smo v sekciji Vizija Darka Bratine v sodobni politični praksi zbrali nekaj političnih osebnosti, v sekciji Sledi Darka Bratine v družbenih vedah pa nekaj družboslovcev. Vsi sodelujoči so Darka Bratino poznali ali z njim sodelovali v različnih funkcijah in okoliščinah. Oba dela simpozija je koordiniral Cristiano Degano, predsednik novinarske zbornice Furlanije Julijske krajine.
V drugem delu dogodka smo v Hiši filma prikazali dokumentarni film ET(h)NOS Anche noi Tudi mi Borisa Palčiča (Kinoatelje, 2004), prefinjen dvojni portret Darka Bratine in istrskega pisatelja Fulvia Tomizze, na različnih straneh meje rojenih predstavnikov različnih manjšin, ki so ju v življenju spremljale številne vzporednice.

SCHEDULE
The Kinoatelje initiative had several objectives. One of the aims was, for example, to highlight the ability of sociology to read social changes not only as macro trends but also placing them in specific social and territorial contexts.
A second objective was to treat and spread the example of Darko Bratina, the relevance and topicality of his reasoning and the extent of his scientific heritage. To achieve all this, some political figures have been invited to bring their contribution in the section The vision of Darko Bratina to the test of contemporary politics, while sociologists have intervened in the section The traces of Darko Bratina on the path of social sciences. All the speakers have known or collaborated, in various capacities and in different contexts, with Darko Bratina. The two parts of the conference were coordinated by Cristiano Degano, president of the Order of Journalists of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The second part of the day at the Palazzo del Cinema instead saw the screening of the documentary film ET(h)NOS. We too Tudi mi by Boris Palčič (Kinoatelje, 2004), an interesting comparison between Darko Bratina and the Istrian writer Fulvio Tomizza, two men born on two different sides of the border, both exponents of two minorities, united by a path full of similarities. Bratina and Tomizza shared two visions of the world marked by respect and peaceful coexistence in a space characterised by a natural complexity, given by the presence of different languages and cultures but also by traumatic historical facts that are difficult to elaborate. Darko’s daughter Majda Bratina also took part in the afternoon context of the event, with her personal and heartfelt testimony. With this conference, the broader project was also launched, Trust beyond the border: Darko Bratina between sociology and cinema, always with the aim of continuing to develop shared paths, suitable for the present and the future, starting from the example of that which for many was a reference figure for the cross-border territory. The concept of “trust”, present in the title, both in the case of the conference and the project, was and is closely linked to the knowledge of the Other and what is beyond the mental, geographical, political and social borders. “Beyond the border”, in this perspective, we therefore do not find the different or the extraneous, but the complementary one in which to reflect ourselves.
The conference was organised with different realities that found a meeting point in these reflections: Darko Bratina Association; DILL – Department of Languages and Literature, Communication, Training and Society, University of Udine; DISPeS – Department of political and social sciences, University of Trieste; Kinoatelje; SKGZ – Slovenian Cultural and Economic Union; Slovenian Research Institute (SLORI) and Sociology 2020 (network of sociological research institutes in the FVG).
