Gorica je rojstni kraj Darka Bratine. Tu se je rodil leta 1942. To mesto je Bratina nosil v srcu, saj so tu živeli njegovi dragi. V tem mestu je tudi obiskoval slovensko osnovno in srednjo šolo, nato pa znanstveni licej. Leta 1976 se je vrnil v svoj rojstni kraj in tu ustanovil filmski krožek Kinoatelje ter društvo Sergio Amidei, ki podeljuje istoimensko nagrado. Zelo se je zavzemal za odprtje podružnice tržaške univerze v Gorici. Njegov načrt se je uresničil leta 1990 z odprtjem Fakultete za mednarodne odnose in diplomatske vede. Leta 1992 je bil izvoljen za senatorja v goriškem okrožju in tako postal prvi slovenski goriški senator.

Gorizia is for Darko Bratina the city of birth (1942), the place of his heart and affection. In the center of Isonzo district he attended Slovenian elementary school and scientific high school. Darko returned to live here in 1976 and founded the Kinoatelje and the Sergio Amidei Prize. Afterwards he fought to open a university in Gorizia: in 1990 was instituted the Faculty of International and Diplomatic Sciences. In 1992 he was elected for the Gorizia circumscription becoming the first Slovenian senator from the town.
